Battleship New Jersey Amateur Radio Station (BNJARS)


          John J. Lawrence of Nazareth, PA, who was originally from Lowell, MA, joined the Navy on Nov 1, 1941. He was 19 when he became part of the New Jersey's first crew. He served from her first commissioning on May 23, 1943 until her first decommissioning on June 30, 1948. He left as a Machinist Mate 1st Class and afterwards served in the USS Rodman (DMS 21) until leaving the Navy in 1951. He has fond memories of his days on the Jersey and has attended many of the reunuions. Last year, he was able to visit the ship at her new home in Camden.
